Wike vs Fubara: Court Stops Lawmakers From Parading Themselves As Assembly Members, As Police Take Over Rivers Assembly Complex

A high court sitting in Port Harcourt, presided over by His Lordship, Hon. Justice Charles N. Wali, has issued an Order of interim injunction restraining Martin Amaewhule and 24 others from parading themselves as assembly members.

The Court further barred the lawmakers from meeting/sitting at the Auditorium of the House of Assembly Quarters located off Aba Road, Port Harcourt, or any other place whatsoever to carry out or purport to carry out the legislative business of the Rivers State House of Assembly, as their legislative seats have been declared vacant pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.

The case has been adjourned to May 29th for further hearing.

Meanwhile, men of the Nigeria Police have taken over the Rivers House of Assembly complex.

About 30 armed policemen have taken over all the entrances to the House of Assembly quarters located along the Aba Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
