Leading chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that he was a major determinant to the eventual emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as the candidate of the party and his eventual victory at the general elections.

Tinubu, who spoke while addressing the Ogun State delegates at Abeokuta said God used him primarily to put President Muhammadu Buhari in office as the President of Nigeria.

“You recall that he failed in his ambition to rule this country thrice, and even at the third occasion, he was even crying on national television. I went to him in his house in Kaduna, and appealed to him not to lose hope that I will support him to realise his ambition and by the grace of God, he was elected.

“Since his emergence, I never went to him to look for contract, he never made me a minister, and I did not go to him to beg for soup or gaari. I supported the government and was always there for him. If we are talking of zoning, I make bold to say that it is the turn of the Yoruba and even at that it is my turn to become the President of this country. Enough of me carrying and making or building others, let me build myself. I don’t want my place in history to be just a footnote, I want to be the president and the time to achieve that is now.”

Asiwaju also revealed how he ended up making Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President of Nigeria.

He said: “When some people saw that my likely emergence as Buhari’s running mate may torpedo their ambition and that their bloc may end up not getting anything in the distribution of power, they came up with the Muslim/Muslim ticket thing, arguing that the President cannot be a Muslim and his Voce too would be a Muslim. so Abubakar Bukola Saraki who was eyeing the Senate President knew that there is no way he can get there being a Muslim, so he started the agitation and when I saw where it was leading us and we are running foul of INEC’s deadline, I said they should allow me name three Christians from which the President should make his choice. I suggested Mr Yemi Cardoso, Mr Wale Edun and Prof Yemi Osinbajo. Eventually, Osinbajo was picked and that was how I ended up making your son the Vice President of Nigeria.” he told the crowd of estatic delegates.

He asked the delegates to rally behind him to emerge as the party flagbearer, adding that he is determined to change the face of governance and make life more abundance for every Nigerian.
