A group, Miss Health Beauty Pageant, the Aid Talent Show has urged Nigerians to put an end to discrimination and stigmatization of persons with disabilities.
The CEO of the group, Nick Bebiem made the call on Thursday in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to mark “International Day for Persons with Disabilities”.
Bebiem said the aim of observing the programme was to increase awareness, understanding of disability issues and promote the rights of people with disability.
“This year’s theme is “Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World”.
“It reminds us that we need to bounce back better despite how rough the year may have been and the gains to be derive from the integration of people with a disability in every aspect of life,” he said.
He regretted that over the years, there had been reports emanating from people with disability on the issue of discrimination and stigmatization.
“It is time for their voices to be heard, it is time to give them opportunity like others and they deserve to be loved and cared for,” he pleaded.
Bebiem further said the group would be organizing an Aid Talent Hunt reality show for the people with disabilities which would be officially launched and aired on various television stations across the country.
According to him, there are raw talents yet to be harnessed from these people and the winner would be be awarded a grand prize and first runner, a consolation prize.
“With the support from our partners, we will make history and the show will continue in years to come because the AID Talent Hunt show has come to stay.
“Together we will be helping to make people more aware of the rights, dignity and welfare of people with disabilities through our channel,” he added.
