Yobe State Government has ordered the closure of all schools in the state to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The directive was contained in a statement released on Monday and duly signed by the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Muhammad Idriss.

Though no case has been reported in the state, the governor. Alhaji Mai-Mala Buni ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state for a month as part of measures to avert the spread of the pandemic.

The statement read: “Following the recent pandemic outbreak of Corono virus globally  and in particular in Nigeria which has endemically affected about 30 people in different state of the Federation, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni has directed all institutions in the state both public and private institutions to be closed as from Thursday, 26th March, 2020 to Sunday, 26th April, 2020.”

The governor further read that the “governor appreciates parents and guardians for their support and understanding under this trying period,” and charged them to pray fervently to Allah (God) to wipe away the pandemic globally.

The statement ordered all Principals and Head Teachers in both public and private schools under the ministry of education in the state to take immediate action towards actualizing the directive.

The statement however urged students particularly those in SSG 3 and JSS 3 to use the period to study hard while at home.
