Yobe State Government has said 3,000 new teachers would be recruited in 2021 to address the acute shortage of teachers.
The government who had earlier declared a state of emergency in the education sector and has equally hosted education summit to proffer solutions to the perennial problems in the education sector, has completed seven model in Damaturu, Gaidam, Gashu’a, Nguru, Potiskum and Buni-Yadi in the course of 2020 with construction work on seven other mega schools currently ongoing.
Addressing a press conference on the achievements of the state government in 2020 on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information, Mallam Abdullahi Bego disclosed that the model schools will start operations in the first quarter of 2021.
On some of the other achievements in the education sector, Bego said there has been construction of more schools and renovation of existing ones in all the 17 local government areas of the state, including fencing of five model primary schools in five councils.
He also said 69 students were sponsored to law school in the course of the year and 204 Yobe Youths sponsored for Undergraduate Courses to India and Asian countries.
Bego said that reformation of Almajiri Education was pursue and the renovation and equipping of lecture hall for university of Maiduguri remedial programme at GGC Damaturu was commenced.
He disclosed that major achievements and turnarounds were witnessed in all the other sectors in the state.
