Residents of Babbangida, in Tarmuwa local government area of Yobe State which was attacked on Wednesday afternoon by Boko Haram, have alleged that a shot by the NAF jet on a residential quarters killed two innocent civilians.
According to residents of the town who spoke on pledge of anonymity on phone with SUNRISE CORRESPONDENT, one of the two NAF jets deployed to repel off the marauding insurgents shot at a residential quarters injuring three persons,.
The three were rushed to the hospital where two later died.
The source disclosed on the phone that: “Of the three injured persons I told you earlier, two have been lost.”
When contacted the Assistant Director Army Public Relation, Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole, Damaturu, Captain Njoka Irabor said the Army learnt about the death but is still investigating how it happened.
A statement by the police, which confirmed the attack was however silent about the casualties.
The statement signed by the Yobe Police Public Relations Office, AbdulMalik AbdulHafeez, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, read: “Security Situation in Babbangida is relatively calm for now but still remains volatile and unpredictable.
“Today (yesterday) being 27th of November, 2019 at about 1230hrs, suspected Boko Haram insurgents stormed into Babbangida of Tarmuwa LGA on nine hilux vehicles, heavily armed shooting sporadically into the air.
“They were successfully repelled by Army troops of “Operation Lafiya Dole, “supported by the Nigerian Airforce, as well as police personnel attached to JTF.”
He promised to give further details later, while adding that:
“In this regard, Yobe State Police Command is calling on the good people of Yobe State to report any suspicious movement(s), person(s) or object(s) to the nearest Police, Military, or any Security formation nearest to them.”
He asked the general public to cooperate and collaborate with the Police to ensure public safety in the State.
