The Yoruba Welfare Group (YWG) has commended the principled support of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Ishola Adetunji, to the Yoruba nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, being presently tried at a Federal High Court in the Republic of Benin.
The group made this known when they paid an unscheduled visit to the Olubadan in his Popoyemoja Palace in the heart of the city.
Led by its National President, Ogbeni Abdul-Akeem Adegoke Alawuje, the YWG said they had come to salute the courage and the wisdom of the monarch and the Olubadan in Council to have set up a team to monitor the proceedings of the suit instituted against the Yoruba rights activist and for taking interest in the overall handling of his case, and any moves that might be made by the Beniniose Government and her Nigerian counterpart.
Alawuje enjoined other traditional rulers, political and leaders of thoughts in Yorubaland to forgive and forget any wrong doings of the young man, his aides and supporters and stand up for him to regain his freedom.
Alawuje urged all Yoruba sons and daughters, home and abroad, to continually support Chief Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a. Sunday Igboho by pleading on his behalf. “We must have realised his mistakes and desist from making inciting statements or spreading news that could compound the problem on ground and further heat up the polity.”
Comrade Alawuje did not fail to intimate the monarch with YWG moves towards Southwest economic empowerment, which, according to him, was conceptualised to fight poverty, youth unemployment and guarantee food security through farming and agro-allied initiatives. He equally disclosed the group’s reconciliation efforts committee at bringing all traditional rulers and political leaders together, with a view to begin to speak in one voice for the common good of Yorubaland and its people.
