Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has flagged off the construction of about 11 township road projects in Simari community of Jere Local Government Area.
The road projects which extend to parts of Mafa Local Government also comprise of drainage networks.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, Senator, Borno Central, Kaka Shehu Lawan, House of Reps member for MMC, Abdulkadir Rahis, APC’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, Secretary to the State Government, Hon Bukar Tijjani and other top government officials.
The 11 roads cover a total of 5.125km with 10.248 km and about 1.22km outfall.
“In fulfilment of our electioneering campaign promise, we are here to flag off the construction of 11 township road projects totalling about 5.12km road with 10.248km drainage network in Simari covering both Jere and Mafa Local Government Areas,” Zulum said.
Making brief remarks, Zulum charged the contractors for timely completion of the project while ensuring maximum standards in all phases of the work.
Zulum also noted that Simari is a community flooded by rainwater, largely due to lack of access roads and drainage with thousands facing difficulties in accessing their places of work and public facilities like health.
State Commissioner of Works and Housing, Engr Mustapha Gubio, said the project was expected to be completed in one year.
