Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has suggested that his team defeated Chelsea 1-0 in Sunday’s Premier League tie because his players were very competitive and good defensively against the hosts.
Sunrise reports that Ollie Watkins scored the only goal of the encounter against Chelsea in the second half.
Malo Gusto did receive a red card during the encounter at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking at his post-match press conference after the game, Emery said: “To win here is not easy and if the match was going differently, we could have lost as well but I am happy because we were very competitive and good defensively.”
He added: “He [Watkins] works hard every day, he practises with his teammates and his commitment is amazing. We will need his goals, like today. Emiliano Martinez played very well.”
The win over Chelsea means Aston Villa are now in sixth place with 12 points from six matches.
