The people of Iperu-Remo, one of the foremost communities in Ogun State got an uncommon gift – the Folashade Memorial Hospital, from one of their sons, on February 15, 2025, to help boost their resilience and their access to quality but affordable healthcare.
Performing the cutting of the tape ceremony signaling the commencement of operations at the hospital, located in the centre of Iperu, Arch Adekalu, who was ably supported by Mrs Nike Adebanwo and Seun Awopeju-Camille, urged other well-meaning Nigerians, to emulate the founder of the hospital and embark on legacy projects to immortalize the memories of their loved ones. The hospital was established in honour of the founder’s grandmother.
According to him, it is only by doing so that the government’s efforts at ensuring that all nooks and crannies of the state enjoy improved infrastructure, would be realised and the people in the rural and semi-rural areas would truly experience enhanced living standards.
Adekalu said the berthing of the hospital is a demonstration of the deep-rooted compassion, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the sanctity of life, inspired by the remarkable legacy of Madam Folashade Oduekun (née Odukoya), adding that the institution would stand as a beacon of hope and address the shortage of hospitals in the Remo axis of the state.
Also speaking Mrs Adebanwo said the Folashade Memorial Hospital was built in honour of a woman of uncommon kindness, purpose and principles adding that she was known for her commitment to serving the sick, the poor, and the needy and providing them access to good things of life.
Inspite of its semi-rural location, the hospital, she explained would provide exceptional, accessible, and affordable healthcare to all. “It is more than just a medical facility—it is a promise to uphold dignity, restore hope, and strengthen the community through quality and affordable healthcare services,” Mrs Adebanwo added.

She said: “The hospital has private wards for males and females, general wards for male, female, and children, labour room, an incubator, for premature babies, consulting room, recovery room, and pharmacy. We have Scan machines, X-ray machines, Laboratory for various medical tests that need to be carried out, making it a one-stop shop hospital with state-of-the-art medical facilities.
The facility Mrs Adebanwo added would be manned by a committed team of dedicated patient-centric professionals, who have been trained to provide service in a friendly-family ambience that would relieve their patients and their relations.
Folashade Memorial Hospital, she said, aims to set new standards in compassionate healthcare, adding that no one will be denied access to quality medical care, regardless of their background or circumstances or social status.
“As we open our doors, we invite the community to join us in celebrating this great milestone—a tribute to a woman whose kindness and sacrifice continues to inspire. Folashade Memorial Hospital is not just a place of healing; it is a living testament to a legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication to humanity.
“Madam Folashade Oduekun’s life was defined by her generosity, strength, and dedication to others. Coming from humble beginnings, she firmly believed in hard work, family, and the value of every human life. Despite having little, she gave selflessly, extending kindness to those in need and instilling these values in her daughter, Chief Mrs. G. A. Awopeju, the wife of Prince S. O. Awopeju, and grandchildren. Her legacy is one of service, compassion, and an unyielding belief in the power of care,” Mrs Adebanwo said.

Among those who graced the occasion are the Aro of Iperu-Remo, Hon. Chief Jide Sosan, Pa S.O. Awopeju, Dr Rotimi Adesanya, Prince Gbadebo Okupe, Chief Alimi, and Mr Dapo Oduekun.
