The Lagos State House of Assembly has commiserated with the people of Ibadan in Oyo State over the demise of their monarch, Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Lekan Balogun.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, noted that with the demise of the Olubadan and the passing of the Alaafin of Oyo many months ago, the wisdom and experience of monarchs is gradually going into extinction because of their knowledge in Yoruba cultural values.
“Oba Balogun, who reigned for two years, having been presented the Staff of Office by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, died at the age of 81 on Thursday at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State.
“His wealth of knowledge in Yoruba heritage will be greatly missed,” the Speaker said.
Obasa also commended Ibadan for having a system that ensures smooth transition to the throne.
The House held a minute silence for the late monarch and the soldiers who were killed recently during an ambush in Delta State after which the Speaker directed the Clerk, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, to write a condolence letter to the Olubadan-In-Council and the family of the late Olubadan.
In the same vein, the Clerk of the House was directed to commiserate with the Nigerian Army over the death of its personnel in Delta State.
