The leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kosofe Local Government Area has flayed the ruling party’s headship and stakeholders in Kosofe federal constituency, over what it described as lack of political will to stem the ugly tide of cult attacks and clashes that is fast pillaging the peaceful ambience previously witnessed in the area.
In a statement issued in reaction to the frightening development, signed by Comrade Babajide Badejoko Bakare NNPP candidate for Kosofe 2 constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly put the blame at the door steps of those holding the reins of power within Kosofe polity.
Highlighting the series of attacks and reprisal attacks by some cult groups allegedly loyal to the ruling party, NNPP berates the APC leadership for lack of prompt intervention.
“The cult clashes took on a rising spate particularly in the last two months of July and August in the Alapere, Agboyi Road, Church Street, Demurin area of Kosofe with the latest being the cold blooded daylight butchering of the Chairman of the National Union of the Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sulaimon , aka Ariku, in the Mile12 area on Sunday, 28th August, 2022.
“In addition to this, we have had series of unending cult attacks, killings and reprisals all through the year.
“We have also had series of attacks reported in the Ojota and Ogudu axis of Kosofe. All these anti-social, evil and barbaric act has constantly thrown the area into panic and tension, with the resultant loss of lives, time resources and business revenue.
“The leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kosofe Local Government Area hereby call on the leadership of the ruling party in the LGA to wade in appropriately and stem the raging crisis, directly a consequence of leadership failure that has failed to arrest and put to a halt the constant security crises in Kosofe.
“The lack of political will to stop this crisis by the leadership and all other constituted authority in Kosofe Federal Constituency is a glaring sign of leadership failure, which cannot be allowed to continue for the sake of peace and well-being of residents of the area.
“We hereby call on the heads of the diverse security agencies to please provide vigilant leadership and watch to fill in the vacuum in order to maintain peace and order across the length and breadth of Kosofe.” NNPP said.
The NNPP’s preferred candidates in the fast approaching 2023 general elections also stated that the lapses observed in governance thus far is due to wrong set of individuals having strangle hold on power, to the detriment of the masses while changing adversely affected electorates to vote right when next the opportunity avails itself.
“We also use this opportunity to appeal to residents of the area for understanding, patience and calm in the face of the present crises, as we all get ready to use the ballot to remove this failed leadership and bring in a new rein of peace in the area.
“As part of our strategic plan in NNPP is to usher in a community based solution to the security challenges working directly with the people and the stakeholders for a lasting peace in the area.
“This model will help identify the long standing issues, the friction points, the critical stakeholders involved and then draw up an affirmative/actionable plan and timeline to permanently resolve the crises.”
