The Nigeria Country Top Level Domain (CTLD) .ng improved in the month of May, a report by the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has said.
In a report released in the last day of June, for the previous month, published on NIRA’s portal – nira.org.ng the country’s domain name is now 193,058 as at May 2023, woth new registration hitting an all-time high of 7,777, while renewal and restoration of the existing domain are 5,254 and 163 respectively.
This is slightly higher than the figure recorded in the same period last year with new registration put at 5,866, while renewal was 4,863 and restoration was 112.
The Nigeria domain .ng is Nigeria’s CTLD available to Nigerians both individuals and body corporate to promote the country’s internet presence, rather than using the most popular American’s presence .com or .org and .net.
According to the report which compared the growth of the .ng penetration from March to May, this year, showed that while the new registration was 7,799 in March, it dropped to 6, 957 in April and leaped again in May to 7,777.
Renewal with the same period was 5,502 in March, dropped to 4892 in April and rose to 5,252 in May 2023, while registration was 127 in March, 129 in April and 163 in May.
NIRA has been in the forefront of encouraging more Nigerians to adopt the .ng domain and has been promoting greater acceptability of the country’s domain name system by businesses whether big, medium or small and micro businesses as well as society big wigs, and celebrities in order to ensure that the country enjoys greater visibility on the internet gateways.
Just recently, NIRA entered into partnership with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industries (LCCI) to encourage greater adoption and migration of corporate Nigerians to the country’s DNS ecosystem and encourage those who are yet to have any presence on the internet to choose to be a Nigerian online by adopting the .ng domain.
