The Ogun State Head of Service (HoS), Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun has said that human resource management is an indispensable function for both private and public organizations, which the process deals with several operational objectives such as recruitment, providing proper training to the employee, selection of the employee, assessment of the employee, motivating and maintaining a proper relationship with the employee.
He also said that maintaining welfare and health for the employees in the organization through laws created by the concerned state and country could not be overemphasised.
Fagbohun, in a statement made available to newsmen by Ms. Adebukola Adekanmbi, press officer HMB, stated this at a 3-day strategic retreat organised for the management team and Head of facilities of the Hospital Management Board (HMB), held at Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
While delivering his lecture titled “Impact of Human Resources Management in the achievement of organisational and objectives”, said human resources were the available skills of an organisation that meets the needs of the clients, emphasising on human as valuable resources of any organisation.
“Indeed, human resource management is a process through which the organization utilizes their limited skilled workforce, and the main intension is effective utilization of the existing human resources for the organization and the role of the higher performance work practices in the realm of human resource management is important”, Fagbohun said
Also speaking, the Commissioner-designate for health, Dr. Tomi Coker while also welcoming participants, reiterated that the retreat is for capacity building for the health officials and it is vital for a target which could also elevate the knowledge of the participants.
While delivering her lecture on “clinical governance”, Dr. Coker defined leadership as the process of influencing others to do things for you and better which ordinarily you could be done by yourself, emphasised on the need to make workers understanding of vision of the state, as this will drive them to help in actualizing their aims and objectives.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Kayode Oladeinde in his welcome address, enjoined the participants to take advantage of the programme as a collaborative efforts and ideas to achieve better understanding in health care service delivery.
Alaso, the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide in her welcome address, urged the participants to take the advantage of the programme to learn more on how to increase their productivity while also having a refreshing period. Two of the participants who spoke on behalf of others, Dr. Adewunmi Alayaki and Dr. Olubukunola Akinlesi. appreciated the government, management team and the board members for organising such a programme, saying it was an eyes opener to a new trend of work, promising to apply all what they have learnt at the retreat, so as to discharge their duties with utmost responsibilities.
