The Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Prince Lanre Sanusi (PLS), has commenced a thorough compliance enforcement of existing environmental and traffic rules.

PLS on Tuesday led the enforcement team with a bid to remove all illegal structures, dismantle roadside shanties and curb indiscriminate parking of vehicles on pedestrian walkways within Festac Town.

The enforcement team which includes the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Brigade, the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Environmental Taskforce, and the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Environmental Taskforce, combed major areas of Festac Town, including 2nd Avenue via 1st Avenue, extending through 22 Road, and further from 22 Road to 41 Road.

In the enforcement trail several illegal structures and shanties were demolished, while vehicles obstructing pedestrian walkways and road corridors were impounded in line with extant environmental and traffic regulations.

It would be recalled that the council boss Prince Lanre Sanusi had earlier issued a warning note of his administration’s resolve to restore the age-long glory of Festac Town and plans to ensure conformity with the laid down original urban masterplan of the area.

He stressed his administration’s unwavering commitment at restoring environmental order, safeguarding public spaces, and ensuring that Festac Town conforms to its original urban masterplan, while adding that the enforcement move will be sustained until full compliance is achieved.

“This administration remains committed to ensuring a safe, clean, and orderly environment for all residents.

“Today’s exercise is not a one-off action, but a sustained operation that will continue until complete compliance is attained.

“We will like to appeal to residents, traders and motorists to cooperate with constituted authorities and refrain from activities obstructing free flow of traffic, deliberately distort existing town planning scheme, or deface the environment.” PLS restates.
