The Ogun State Police Command has declared one Bolaji Akingbala wanted in connection with an incident that occurred on July 15, 2024, involving a suspect identified as Babatunde Idris.
According to police sources, officers raided a residence in the Mowe area of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, where Idris was apprehended. He was reportedly found with visible injuries and was taken into custody for questioning.
During the interrogation, officers reportedly found video clips on Idris’s mobile phone, which appeared to show evidence of alleged same-sex acts between the two men—an offence criminalized under Nigerian law. Based on the findings, police took Idris, under heavy security and in handcuffs, to Akingbala’s residence for further investigation.
A resident of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “We saw the police bring a man in handcuffs to the compound. Later, we heard they were looking for Bolaji over what they called a ‘serious immoral matter’.”
However, before officers could apprehend Akingbala, he had reportedly fled the area. Efforts to trace his whereabouts have so far been unsuccessful.
Community leaders in Mowe have urged Akingbala to surrender himself to law enforcement for a fair and transparent investigation.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has called on members of the public with useful information about Akingbala’s location to come forward.
As of the time of filing this report, the investigation remains ongoing.
