On Tuesday, 27 July 2026, the newly constituted Western District Security Committee paid a courtesy visit to the District Manager, Mrs. Naomi Itajobi, to present its findings and recommendations.

The committee, led by the Police Area Commander, ACP Oba Adekunle, expressed appreciation to the District Manager for her initiative and creativity in establishing the committee. He noted that the committee was a timely and necessary solution to the prevailing security challenges. He explained that the report thoroughly covered all critical areas, including the railway compound, the narrow and standard gauge stations, and every other location where railway properties are situated.

In her response, the Rdm thanked the committee for its non-partisan approach. She stated that the committee was formed in response to repeated reports of theft within the compound. The primary goal, she explained, was to discourage such acts and develop lasting solutions to the vandalisation of railway properties. This initiative aligns with the mantra of the Managing Director that ‘Railway properties are not scrap but national assets’.

She assured the committee that the report would receive utmost attention and all recommendations would be carefully considered and implemented through official correspondence. She also announced that the committee would be given statutory status.

Rdm further emphasised that security is everyone’s responsibility as she urged all stakeholders to adopt the principle: ‘If you see something, say something’.

The committee comprises of the Police and Civil Defence Area Commanders, DIA, DHRO, DMEER, DPRO, Chairmen of SSA and NUR, CSO and the Police 2iC.

This visit marks a significant step towards strengthening the protection of railway assets in the Western District.
