The General Manager of the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI), Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, has urged the motoring public across the state to be safety conscious during and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Tiamiyu, who made the call during an On-site Drivers’ Recertification Exercise/Enlightenment programme held for professional drivers registered under the umbrella of Allied Truck Transporters Association of Nigeria (ATTAN), Ojota Branch, specifically appealed to commercial drivers not to turn the road to a racing track, while trying to make multiple trips within a day in an effort to maximise profit.

She noted that this is especially evident during this festive period, when there would be an increase in travels by the populace.

The LASDRI boss in a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs Unit of the agency Mr. Kayode Abayomi, also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration for not resting on its oars towards making sure that Lagos roads are in good condition going by the volume of construction and road repairs across the state.

She however implored that any vehicle plying Lagos road during this period and beyond should be in proper working condition, so as not to cause unnecessary impediments and thereby hinder the free flow of traffic.

Explaining the three ‘C’ in driving which all drivers must strictly adhere to, that is; Concentration, Consideration and Caution, the General Manager advised drivers to be adequately prepared for each journey undertaken during and beyond Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Adding that they should not only ensure they are in by in the right frame of mind alone but endeavour to take adequate rest as at when due.

“And if the journey they want to embark on is not all that important, it can be postponed due to the volume of traffic that will be experienced during the Sallah celebration,” she added.

She further reiterated the importance of undergoing their annual training exercise at LASDRI which is mandatory, stressing that once a driver is trained, hundreds of road users’ lives are protected.

Tiamiyu admonished the motoring public to continually abide by the COVID-19 safety guidelines issued by the State Government, as well as the Federal Government so as to remain safe, healthy and also curtail the spread of the pandemic.

She also used the medium to felicitate with Muslim faithful on this year’s Sallah celebration, noting that the significance of the celebration bothers on virtue, sacrifice and love.
