Let us drop the fake smiles, the religious hypocrisy, and the romantic nonsense that has destroyed millions of homes. I am going to speak to you with absolute raw truth today, and it might hurt. If you are looking for soft words or sweet fairy tales, you are reading the wrong article. I write to you as someone who has sat across the desk for years, listening to crying wives, frustrated husbands, and broken people whose lives were shattered by one single mistake: entering marriage without money.
Have your own money before you think of marriage, whether you are a man or a lady. Let that sink deep into your skull. Marriage without money is suffering. It is a slow, agonizing prison sentence where love is slowly choked to death by bills, hunger, debt, and endless frustration. Society has lied to us for generations, feeding us Hollywood movies and sentimental songs that claim love conquers all. That is a dangerous lie. Love does not conquer poverty. Poverty devours love.
LOVE ALONE IS A USELESS CURRENCY
People throw around the word love like it is a magic wand that can pay house rent, buy gas, clear hospital bills, and put food on the table. It cannot. When you wake up in the morning and there is nothing in your account, love flies out of the window. I have seen men who were once gentle and sweet turn into raging monsters because the weight of financial failure is crushing them. I have seen vibrant, beautiful young women transform into bitter, complaining shadows of themselves because they married a man who had nothing to offer except a warm body and a mouth full of sweet promises.
You cannot eat romance. You cannot wear affection to a job interview or use a kiss to settle school fees for your children. When financial pressure enters the door, peace flies out of the window. The human mind is not designed to function normally under the heavy burden of constant lack. When you are broke and married, every small misunderstanding turns into a massive war because the underlying stress of survival is always there, breathing down your neck.
Marriage is more than just loving someone. Loving someone is easy. It requires zero effort to look at a person and feel butterflies in your stomach. But maintaining a home, raising human beings, protecting your dignity, and surviving a hostile economy requires resources. If you do not have your own money, you are not ready for marriage. You are looking for a sponsor, a savior, or a parent to adopt you, and that is unfair to whoever you are dragging into your mess.
THE MYTH OF GROWING TOGETHER
Let us address another toxic phrase that has ruined countless lives: growing together. Young people love to use this as an excuse for jumping into poverty hand in hand. They think it sounds romantic to start from zero together. But let us be brutally honest. Most of the time, growing together is just a code word for let us go and suffer together because we lack patience, discipline, and financial sense.
If you do not have your own source of income, your own savings, and your own financial footing before you say I do, you are not a partner. You are a liability. Marriage is heavy. It requires serious capital. Expecting someone else to fund your survival, your upkeep, and your lifestyle because you decided to share a bed is economic parasitism. You must bring something tangible to the table. A breathing body and a dream are not currency.
When you enter a union with zero financial security, you hand over your power, your voice, and your freedom to your spouse. You become trapped. You cannot walk away from abuse, disrespect, or toxic behavior because you cannot even afford to rent a single room on your own. Financial independence is not pride; it is self-preservation. Whether you are a man who society expects to lead in provision or a lady who refuses to be a financial parasite, you must secure your own financial foundation before you merge your life with another human being.
WHAT THE BIBLE ACTUALLY SAYS ABOUT PREPARATION
Some people like to twist scriptures to justify irresponsibility, claiming that God will provide everything miraculously without human effort or planning. That is spiritual laziness. God is a God of order, preparation, and structure. Look at what Proverbs twenty-four, verse twenty-seven says clearly:
Prepare your outside work, make it fit for yourself in the field; and afterwards build your house.
Look closely at the divine order in that verse. You prepare your field first. You secure your means of production. You build your capacity, your business, or your career. You get your money right. And only afterwards do you build your house, which represents marriage and family. If you flip that order and build the house before preparing the field, the house will collapse on your head, and you will have no one else to blame for the wreckage.
Consider another sobering warning found in Luke fourteen, verse twenty-eight:
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
Marriage is the greatest tower you will ever build in your lifetime. If you sit down, check your bank account, and find zero, why on earth are you rushing into a project you cannot finish? Why are you dragging an innocent person into a life of endless debt, borrowing, and public shame just to satisfy a one-day wedding party fantasy? It is wicked, selfish, and deeply irresponsible. Jesus Himself taught us to count the cost before building. Ignoring this instruction is an invitation to total disaster.
ORIGINAL WISDOM FOR THE FOOLISH
Poverty in a relationship does not test your love; it exposes your foolishness.
You cannot hug hunger and call it romance.
A wedding is a one-day celebration, but financial suffering in a bad marriage is a lifetime prison sentence.
Do not let societal pressure, biological clocks, or family interference rush you into a union where you will become a beggar in your own home. Get your money. Build your capacity. Stand firmly on your own two feet. Only then are you qualified to look someone in the eye and invite them into a shared life.
THE DANGER OF STARTING A WAR WITH EMPTY HANDS
Marriage is a battlefield. The economy is brutal. Inflation is rising. Family demands are endless. Unforeseen sicknesses happen without warning. Raising children requires serious financial muscle. Entering this kind of environment without money is like walking onto a battlefield naked with a wooden stick against an army carrying tanks and guns. You will be slaughtered.
When you have your own money, you command respect. You have a voice in decision-making. You do not have to beg for every little thing or explain how every single coin was spent like a child asking a parent for allowance. Financial equality or financial stability creates mutual respect. When two people come into a marriage with their own individual financial footing, they complement each other instead of consuming each other.
If you are a man reading this and you think you can manage marriage while completely broke, you are living in a dream world. A man without provision loses his voice, his authority, and his peace of mind in his own home. Society will judge you, your wife will resent you, and the weight of your inability to provide will crush your soul. Do not go into marriage to test your luck. Go into marriage when you have built a structure that can sustain a family.
If you are a lady reading this and you think your beauty, your charm, or your cooking skills are enough substitute for financial independence, you are setting yourself up for modern slavery. When you depend entirely on a man for every single necessity of life, you lose your autonomy. You become vulnerable to control, manipulation, and abuse because leaving means absolute starvation. Do not ever put yourself in a position where your survival depends on someone else’s mood or willingness to drop funds into your account. Build your own empire. Have your own money. Protect your future.
CONCLUSION
Let us stop glorifying struggle love. Struggle love is a scam. It is an emotional trap designed to keep people bound in generational poverty. True love thrives best in an environment of peace, stability, and adequate resources. Do not rush into marriage out of fear of being left behind or pressure from friends and family. Take your time, build your career, master your finances, and secure your future.
When you are financially stable, you approach marriage from a position of strength, not desperation. You choose your partner because you genuinely want them, not because you desperately need them to survive. That is the difference between a thriving home and a lifetime of regret. Choose wisdom. Choose financial preparedness. Protect your mental health, your dignity, and your future.
