Barcelona coach, Xavi, has revealed he is unsure if midfielder, Frenkie de Jong will still be at the club when the season begins.
De Jong has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea, but according to reports, he wants to stay at Camp Nou.
Speaking after Barcelona’s pre-season friendly against NY Red Bulls at the weekend, Xavi said at his post-match press conference that he doesn’t need to send a signal regarding the player’s future, adding that a lot of things can still happen.
Xavi said, “I don’t know if he’s [De Jong] going to stay here. There is still time and a lot of things can still happen.
“At the moment, he’s part of the team, like everyone else. The fact that he played as a central defender in the other games was not a sign that he was leaving.
“I don’t need to send signals on the pitch. I can speak directly with my footballers.”
