Borno finalises planned relocation of farmers

BORNO STATE Governor Babagana Zulum, has finalized the plan to relocate displaced persons back to some farming communities of the state.
He said this would enable increase in food production and income of farmers displaced by Boko Haram from their communities.
The governor’s plan is to fast track the movement of the farmers back to the communities, 28 communities in the shores of Lake Alau, to take advantage of the raining season.
Zulum during a tour of the 28 communities on Tuesday, said trenches have been built to prevent attacks of insurgents.
The governor, who met some farmers during the tour, said his visit was aimed at achieving improved food security in Borno State.
He disclosed that about 28 communities in the shores of Lake Alau are targeted in the first phase of the Governor’s back to farm initiative.
Zulum had during the visit, personally interacted with many farmers who were either clearing or planting seeds in their various farmlands.
He told them that: “Our intention is to resettle all the 28 communities around this place, we have built trenches from Dalori up to Molai. We are in consultation with the military, insha Allah all the communities will go back to their localities soon.”
Zulum briefing newsmen after his tour assured of government support in enabling the farmers go back to their farmlands.
He said: “This is a singular act that will make our people happy and food sufficient, we shall insha Allah give all the necessary support to our people to go back to their farms.”
Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has been presented with medal award by the Nigerian Army.
The Commander 251 Task Force Battalion, Lt. Col. Jerry Maigari on Tuesday gave the medal to the governor in what he said was an appreciation of his support to the Nigerian military.
