A 34-year-old businesswoman, Happiness Ikechukwu, on Monday appeared in Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly threatening a woman through a text message.
Ikechukwu, a resident of Alagbado in Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and felony.
The defendant, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Akeem Raji, alleged that Ikechukwu conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by threatening to kill one Ijeoma Mary-Ann, through a WhatsApp voice note.
Raji told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 8, between 10.58 a.m. and 11:01 a.m. at Ipaja, Lagos.
The prosecutor submitted that the defendant threatened the life of the complainant through the voice message.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Adelaja, admitted the defendant to N50,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.
Adelaja ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed, and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The alleged offences contravened sections 168(1)(d) and 232 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Aug. 24, for further mention.
