The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) and other Journalists insisted that remand warrant must be provided before taking their colleagues, Dare Akogun and Abdulrasheed Akogun to the Corrections centre.

It would be recall that the Chief Press Secretary, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, through a petition letter to the Commissioner of Police accused them of defamation and inciting public against the government.

Ajakaye said Abdulrasheed possed a comment on the popular WhatsApp platform, Kwara Commission, accusing government of the day of being most corrupt and of facilitating fifteen million naira to prosecute the last election of the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Kwara State chapter.

The government prosecutor, Nasir Yusuf, in his submissions, prayed the court for another date of adjournment pending the determination of police investigation over the matter.

He informed the court of the motion exparte attached to the police report seeking the remand of the suspects and the eleven paragraph affidavit deposed to which was attached to it.

Magistrate Bio Salihu who precided over the matter however turned down Barrister Kehinde Eleja’s appearance for the suspects saying according to Kwara State law, he lacks jurisdiction to hear him being a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

In his short ruling, the Magistrate Salihu, in ordered Dare and Abdulrasheed Akogun remand in Oke-Kura custodian centre while the matter was adjourned to 19th of this month.
