Nigerians across all divides have started expressing their frustrations with the delays in the declaration of the presidential and National Assembly which held on February 23, 2019.
INEC Chairman Prof Mahmud Yakubu had engaged in a series of adjournments in the announcements of the results from the National Collation Centre at the Federal Capital, Abuja.
The official announcements of results started on Sunday, but the Electoral Chairman had shifted the announcements until 11am on Monday, which didn’t begin until 2.30pm.
Results from only 12 states were eventually announced as at 12 am when the announcements were again shifted till Tuesday morning. INEC said the Collation Centre would open by 10 am, but could not until 11.10am when this report is being filed.
But Nigerians have taken their anger on the INEC, urging it to round up the announcements and declare the winner of the elections so the country can move on.
“I wonder why it is taking so much time to get the collation and announcement done speedily,” @Ajala posted.
Another Nigerian, Jide Adeyinka wondered why how many days it would take for the electoral body to conclude with the election four days after it was concluded.
Joel Victor, another angry Nigerian urged INEC to accelerate the process and incessant delays could give room for malpractices.
But the INEC Chairman, while commencing the announcements today promised they intend to make more speed today.
While apoligising for the slight delay in the takeoff of the announcement on Tuesday, Prof Yakubu said the commission intends to cover more grounds from the 12 states declared on Monday.
He however did not disclose whether the commission would be able to conclude with the announcements of results today.
