Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66.
The actor’s death was announced by his daughter, Kira Hassan, during an Instagram Live session on Sunday.
Ogogo had been battling stage-four cancer, with his daughters, Kira and Lima, recently appealing for urgent medical assistance for their father.
The development sparked concern across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with colleagues and friends rallying around the family and organising prayer sessions for the veteran actor.
Several prominent Yoruba actors and filmmakers had gathered in Lagos on Friday to pray for Ogogo’s recovery amid concerns over his worsening health.
The actor’s daughters had earlier disclosed that his condition had become critical and that doctors had been unable to continue chemotherapy because of the advanced stage of the illness.
Ogogo, who was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood, enjoyed a career spanning several decades as an actor, filmmaker and producer.
His reported death comes just days after his family had appealed to medical experts and hospitals for help in treating his condition.
