Popular Nigerian dancer and socialite, Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, is reportedly being held on remand in the United Kingdom over an alleged assault offence.
Poco Lee is expected to appear before the Snaresbrook Crown Court in London on September for a plea hearing.
The development was confirmed by Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of the Community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom.
Kuti said Poco Lee is currently being held in a UK prison and is scheduled to appear before the court at 10am on the stated date.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” he tweeted.
Kuti also said he would attend the proceedings to support Poco Lee, while urging the public to allow the legal process to take its course.
“I will also be attending the court proceedings as part of my support for the Nigerian community in the UK, to ensure that our fellow Nigerian receives the appropriate support during this difficult period of his life.
“Supporting members of our community in situations like this is something I do regularly, including visiting some of our community members who are currently in prison. It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
Reports about Poco Lee’s alleged detention in the UK began circulating on social media on August 19, although details surrounding the alleged incident remain limited.
The dancer has built a significant following in Nigeria through his dance performances, entertainment appearances and social media activities.
His next court appearance is expected to provide further details about the allegation and the legal proceedings against him.
