SUNRISE NEWS, Abuja, July 22, 2020 In line with its corporate strategy in giving back to Nigerians, Samsung has donated 500 Galaxy A2 Core devices to the Federal Ministry of Health to support Nigeria on its mission to curb the infection rate and flatten the COVID-19 growth curve.
The donation is in partnership with MTN who will provide SIM cards and 2GB data for 6 months to this effort.
Speaking during the presentation in Abuja on Tuesday, Managing Director, Samsung Nigeria, Mr. Caden Yu, explained that the devices will be used by case managers for data capturing and case reporting in the isolation centres across 36 states including the Federal capital Territory.
Yu described the initiative as the company’s commitment towards supporting the people and community in these times.
He said: “Our thoughts are with every Nigerian and this donation is a way of using our resources to fight this pandemic. Through our collaborative effort, we will get through this.
“Samsung believes in strong collaborations between the government and the private sector and is committed to playing a sustained role in the fight against COVID-19.
“The effort of the Nigerian government in combating the continued increase in COVID -19 cases is well commended. There is now a stronger need for corporates to respond to the crisis and work with the Government to help the people of Nigeria.
While receiving the donation, Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire expressed gratitude to Samsung and assured that the devices will be used judiciously.
He said the devices will be distributed to the testing centres both at state and local government levels.
“Part of the challenges we face is challenge of communication and data reporting. Nigeria is going to make best use of these donations and ensure it improves the service delivery”.
