A faith based group-Christian Youth in Politics (CYP) Connect International has urged Nigerians to eschew divisive tendencies, that further decimates existing bond of unity.
CYP made the call during a press briefing addressed by Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo Chairman Planning Committee of proposed Nigerian Peaceful Coexistence Conference, scheduled to hold on 28th October, 2023 in Lagos.
Oguntoyinbo stressed the need for collaboration amongst the religious divides to foster peaceful and harmonious coexistence, which will translate to a progressive society.
“It is no news that divisive tendencies along religious, ethnic and cultural frames is fast reducing the strength of unity our country used to enjoy several years back.
“The time is now to make concerted efforts to restore key factors that previously helped to cement the bond of unity.
“We are not oblivious of the fact that the void created by the age long disunity in the country has posed a debilitating effect on the development of our society.
“That in essence is what prompted this concept-Nigerian Peaceful Coexistence Conference.”
CYP noted that through the conference many issues bothering coexistence among inter-religious faith will be addressed, while probable solutions will be advanced.
“By our estimated projection well over 1000 participants from diverse backgrounds, religious shades and beliefs will be coming together to discuss issues related to peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.
“The proposed conference program will include amongst others; keynote speeches, plenary sessions, panel discussions, and breakout sessions that will afford participants avenues to familiarize and see the issues confronting the nation as one that requires holistic approach to proffer lasting solutions.
“The conference will highlight the need for greater inter-religious and inter-ethnic dialogue and also emphasize the importance of promoting tolerance and understanding among Nigerians from different backgrounds.
“Participants will also discussed ways to combat hate speech, discrimination, and violence in the country.”
The Group also extend sincere gratitude to notable individuals and corporate bodies whose immense contributions really gave life to the concept.
“We express our deep sense of gratitude to our special adviser, Senator Anthony Adefuye (Olugbon of Lagos) , our amiable member and pillar of support the Special Adviser to Oyo state Governor on Religious Matters.
“All our corporate partners; Viju milk Company, Perfection real estate group, Dress you company, De-miller Company, Castle water, Nenye table water, Cheese Balls company, House 5 Royal Comfort Academy Inn , Lagos Airport Hotel, Rite Foods, Holam and Pepsi Nigeria who had made immense contributions to make this conference a reality.”
