The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation held a Stakeholders’ Meeting on Traffic Management for Fuel tankers and other articulated vehicles operating along the Free Trade Zone Axis.
The meeting, which took place at the New Eleko Market, brought together government officials, industry stakeholders’, transport operators, and community leaders to address the growing concerns over traffic congestion and safety risks posed by heavy vehicular movement in the area.
Addressing the gathering, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, explained that the meeting created a timely opportunity to further inform the people of Ibeju-Lekki about the implementation of the E-Call-Up System, noting that the system is designed to streamline and efficiently manage the movement of trucks in and out of the Free Trade Zone.
Hon. Giwa also stated that the Ministry of Transportation would continue to collaborate with relevant enforcement agencies to ensure a smooth implementation of the E-Call-Up System, aimed at improving traffic flow, adding that industries within the Zone have already embraced the system and encouraged the community to do same
Earlier Engr. Abdulahi Sesan Olowa, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, and Engr. Rasak Bamidele Kasali, the Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, emphasized the importance of collaboration in developing effective strategies for traffic decongestion and ensuring smooth operations along this vital commercial corridor.
Key topics discussed included traffic regulation, safety measures, and possible infrastructure upgrades. The meeting also focused on the roles of stakeholders in adhering to traffic guidelines and reducing road obstructions.
Stakeholders present include; E-Call-Up Technology, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Community Development Association (CDA), Suppliers Association, relevant security agencies amongst others.
